Hurricane Katrina intensifies overnight, Now a catastrophic Category 4 storm, President Bush orders Gulf Coast residents to evacuate (story)



Hurricane Katrina gained strength overnight and is now a powerful category 4 hurricane. Katrina is expected to turn toward the northwest later today. Landfall is anticipated Monday.Hurricane Katrina is an extremely dangerous Category 4 storm on the Saffir-Simpson scale. Maximum sustained winds have now been greatly increased to 145 mph. Katrina continues not only grow stronger, but it continues to grow larger. Hurricane force winds extend 75 miles from the center in all but the southwest quadrant of the system.
